Matthews is located about ten miles South-east of the uptown Charlotte area. The city covers about 17.18 square miles and has a population of approximately 25,000. The city of Matthews began as a small farming town in the 1800’s. In the early day the community was known as Stumptown due to the fact that cotton farmers completely cleared the land, leaving tree stumps everywhere.
As this small town continues to grow it continues to be one of the state’s most affluent and desirable communities – while it remains to have that quaint small-town atmosphere. Homes in this area range in price from the lower $200,000 to the upper $700,000. Most neighborhoods are established and the town strives to maintain growth at a steady rate divided equally with commercial and residential properties.
